A purple laser pointer with a difference

Looking for a purple laser pointer or a "blue" laser pen? The colour you are after is violet: a 405 nm dot with a deep purple-blue tone that looks quite unlike the familiar red or green. It is a lovely conversation piece, a fun extra for anyone who already owns a green or red pointer, and a striking choice for gifts. Every model here is a Starlight Lasers laser pointer with an output up to 1 mW, laser class 2.

Choose the slim Z1 pen, which runs on 2x AAA batteries (included), or go rechargeable with the V1 Pro – aluminium body, 18650 battery, charger and two safety keys – or the compact V2 Pro with a 16340 battery.

Be honest with yourself about distance: violet is the colour for indoors and shorter distances. Expect approx. 20 m indoors and approx. 10 m in daylight on a shaded surface, rising to approx. 200 m in the dark (indicative). If you want reach, choose green; if you want something unusual for the living room, desk or a gift box, violet is a treat.

Violet, purple or blue – what is the difference?

In shops and searches you will see "purple laser pointer", "blue laser pen" and "violet laser" used for the same thing. Our lasers are 405 nm, which sits at the violet end of the visible spectrum. To most eyes the dot looks purple with a hint of blue. Because the human eye is less sensitive to this colour, a violet dot looks less bright than green at the same output – which is why the range figures are lower.
