Classic red laser pen pointers for presentations, teaching and cat play – the M1 pen and the rechargeable R1 Pro and R2 Pro. Class 2, up to 1 mW.
When most people picture a laser pointer, they picture a red dot – in a lecture theatre, on a whiteboard, or zipping across the living room floor with the cat in hot pursuit. A red laser pen is calm and familiar, comfortable to use indoors and perfect for highlighting a detail on a projected slide. All our red laser pen pointers are Starlight Lasers models with an output up to 1 mW, laser class 2.
The M1 (650 nm) is a slim pen that runs on 2x AAA batteries, included – one of the most popular lasers in our shop and a great first pointer. Prefer rechargeable? The R1 Pro has an aluminium body, a rechargeable 18650 battery, a charger and two safety keys, while the compact R2 Pro uses a smaller 16340 battery and slips easily into a pocket or pencil case.
Red is ideal at shorter distances: approx. 30 m indoors and approx. 30–50 m in daylight on a shaded surface (indicative). For long distances outdoors, green is the better colour.
| Model | Size | Battery | Charger | Safety keys |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M1 (650 nm) | 15 cm pen | 2x AAA (included) | Not needed | No |
| R2 Pro | 11.2 cm compact | 16340 Li-ion (included) | Included | No |
| R1 Pro | 15 cm | 18650 Li-ion (included) | Included | Yes, 2 |
For presentations and teaching, the M1 is light, simple and always ready – keep two spare AAA batteries in your bag and you are set. The red dot is easy to see on a projection screen and on whiteboards. For cat play, any of the three works well; many owners like the M1 because it sits naturally in the hand during a play session. For daily use, a rechargeable R2 Pro or R1 Pro saves on batteries and feels sturdy thanks to the aluminium body.
Fancy all three colours? The M1 is part of our laser pen set in 3 colours, together with the green X1 and violet Z1. More tips on our presentation laser pointer page and in the comparison tool.
Whichever you choose: never aim at eyes, people, animals' eyes, vehicles, aircraft or reflective surfaces, keep it away from children and remember it is not a toy. Read our laser pointer safety guide.
